The Cévennes Table: THE Inspiration

The Cévennes Table was inspired during our travels through the Massif Central in south-central France. A #massif refers to a separation in the planet’s crust, where in the movement of that crust, it tends to retain its internal structure while being displaced as a whole, hence mountain-building.

Now known as the #Cévennes, with its limestone escarpments, basement granites and grainy #metamorphic rock, its changing sea levels over time added a thick #limestone covering, with only the tops of the Cévennes protruding as islands in the #Jurassic sea. After #erosion and further mountain building, moving water cut itself deeply into the limestone forming deep gorges; rivers known today as Gorges du Tarn, Gorges de la Jonte, Lot, Gorges de l'Ardèche, Cèze etc.

After exploring this dramatic, remote region, we walked away inspired to recreate a resemblance of these soft curves and hard edges; a heavy structure that balances the things of our imagination. We designed a crisp platform balanced atop a gentle, exponential curve resembling growth over time, resting itself on a thick, built-up formation.
